Pittsburgh is often misspelled because it is one of the few American cities to be spelled with an h at the end of a burg suffix. However, Pittsburgh was spelled "Pittsburg" from 1890 until 1911. Locals commonly abbreviate Pittsburgh as PGH instead of using the traditional airport code of PIT.
